POETRY FROM THE HEART
My Thanksgiving
Today is the day I try to take time
and count the blessings in my life,
When so many others are so less fortunate
and the world is full of strife.
How lucky I am to wake each day
with a roof above my head,
And to fall asleep at the end of the day
and know that I've been fed.
I may not have riches or a brand new car,
and my working clothes are jeans.
But I know what it is to feel rich in this life;
I know what true wealth means.
It's friends and family that have your back,
and pets that greet you in the hall,
It's, sometimes, being a hero to them,
when the world makes you feel small.
While others fight in far away lands
and miss loved ones across the sea,
I prop my feet upon the couch,
snack on popcorn and watch TV.
So on this Thanksgiving I know I'm blessed
and that thanks are mine to give.
And I bow my head to offer praise
for the life I'm blessed to live.

What is Art?
Brush strokes upon a canvas,
photos on a wall;
Little bits of paper
cut to make a scene, so small.
Clay that’s modeled carefully
or words upon a page
Creations of a lifetime
that never seem to age.
No matter what the medium,
true art will stir emotion
An expression of an artist’s life,
it’s created with devotion.
So when you see a painting
or read the written word,
See metal twisted into form,
or the carving of a bird
Remember all these different forms
are what the world calls Art
But most important these are gifts
that come from someone’s Heart.

Mother's Day from Daughter
She's always been there to dry my tears,
To share the happiness and ease my fears.
She's helped me to choose the paths that were right,
And helped me reach goals that were once out of sight.
A shoulder to cry on when true love was gone,
A heart always open to help me go on.
A voice in the darkness when anxiety would rule,
Strength and compassion in a world often cruel.
These heartfelt words can describe none other--
Than the woman I am blessed to call my Mother.

Dad's pick us up when we fall down
and help to dry our tears.
They teach us right when we're faced with wrong,
and guide us through the years.
You've always been there for me Dad
when the world seemed to unkind;
And a better teacher on the road of life,
I know I'll never find.
I hope the person I've become
can show you in some way
that I've listened hard and tried to learn
from the things you had to say.
So I bring you thanks and gratitude
and I pray you somehow know
how very much I love you
and that I'll always need you so.
